Large enough for everyone to prop their feet up on or to put a tray of food/drink on. It is sturdy and I am very glad I picked this ottoman. I inquired with the company about a stripe fabric and found out that the stripes would not line up perfectly because of the way it is made. I decided against stripes and went with a basic fabric with piping. Glad I made that choice. Also, I emailed the company to find out it the cushion was reversible. It has velcro straps on the bottom so you really can't flip it. They were very responsive to my email requests.
